Following in the footsteps of his father, Damien Leith who won Australian Idol in 2006, Jagger has big plans for his music career. 

Damien Leith says his son Jagger has always been obsessed with music.

“He was writing songs and playing every instrument he could pick up- from guitar, piano, drums to saxophone. It’s so great to see my kids so passionate about music,” Damien said.

With three years of writing and releasing songs under his belt, Jagger says he feels like he’s coming into his own.

“As I grow, so does my music,” he said.

The 17 year-old’s latest single I MISS YOU! captures the potency of first love and the sting of heartbreak that colours formative teenage years. The new track is mixed by Australian record producer Stuart (Dean Lewis, Sheppard, The Veronicas), giving the heartfelt song a top quality sound.

Whilst music is definitely a huge passion for Leith, it’s also something deeper- a kind of therapy, evidenced in the touching lovesick ballad.

“Music has always been my way of processing emotions,” Leith said.

“I find that the most authentic songs come from moments I’ve actually lived through, things I’m feeling deeply, or something that’s really stayed with me.

“When I’m writing or playing, I feel like I can let out things I might not know how to express otherwise. Music is that one thing I can always turn to, whether I’m in a high or low place,” he said. 

The young singer/ songwriter is often inspired by other artists who bring out different sides of his creativity that push him to experiment and ‘be real’ with his own sound.

“Right now, I’m into Bruno Mars for his funky sound and groove, Kid Laroi for his fresh, genre-blending style, and Billie Eilish because of the rawness and honesty she brings to her music. I also love Michael Jackson—his music is on another level and classic.”

With his new single out, we hear that Leith is already working on some big new projects, including some fresh sounds for a debut album. He’s been cast as Danny in Encore Production’s performance of Grease set to hit the IPAC’s Bruce Gordon stage in October. You can also catch him performing with his dad at the Goulburn Performing arts Centre in July. 

“I’m excited for what’s next, and I hope you’ll stick around to see where this goes,” he said.

One thing’s for sure; Jagger Leith is just getting started.
