How would you describe your style?
My focus is always on creating the most beautiful photographs possible at a wedding, as opposed to only taking ‘wedding photographs’.
But if you’re looking for buzz words, my style sits somewhere between documentary, editorial and cinematic. My approach simply seeks to make beautiful photographs that reflect the day.
How do you capture natural and authentic images?
People are sometimes nervous about having their photo taken – and to be honest; that’s pretty understandable. Photos as a couple, and with your wedding party, should be super relaxed and fun. I’ll usually try to have some music playing, you can have some drinks – it’s really informal.
I really believe that the feeling attached to a photo is more important than the photo itself and the last thing I want is for you to look at a photograph in 20 years and feel anything but warmth and nostalgia. For that reason, I give the cliche poses a big miss and focus on having you interact as you would normally.
What makes for epic ceremony pics?
It’s lovely to see people savouring the moment during their ceremony. It can be quite an emotional part of the day, so while you’re up there, stand together, hold hands, cuddle, kiss – take it all in. You’ll enjoy it so much more when you’re relaxed and sharing the moment together. As you come back down the aisle, remember to stop about halfway for an extra kiss. It’s an epic photo with you surrounded by a tonne of your best buds and confetti falling and people cheering. I love that photo.
When is the best time of day for photos?
Light is important to getting those beautiful photographs, and I recommend setting aside 20 minutes at sunset for a quick wander nearby. The light at sunset is generally nicer and things look just ethereal. It’s such a magical time of day.

For David and Joce, we headed down to Coalcliff beach in the late afternoon. The sun was setting over the escarpment which created a beautiful, filtered light. Very romantic and atmospheric.
What about the celebrations?
There are some great opportunities to take candid photos during the reception when guests are relaxed and ready for some fun. Sit together during your speeches and don’t be afraid to react, laugh, cry – embrace everyone telling you how lovely you both are (and also how you embarrassed yourself that time!)
And when it’s time for dancing, start your playlist with some classic bangers which is sure to get everyone on the dance floor – they make for some of the most memorable photos of the night.

The historic Clifton School of Arts and Imperial Hotel both had lots of interesting features and each venue was quite intimate.
Combined with a relaxed couple and exceptional views, we really had all the right ingredients to capture David and Joce on their big day.
