Welcome to the summer issue – the season where the Illawarra truly comes into its own!
The days are longer, and the afternoon Southerly offers a welcome respite from the heat. Beaches fill with people enjoying the season, taking in the sights and sounds unique to our coastline. Whether you are here for a holiday or call the Illawarra home, there is much to appreciate throughout the summer months.
This issue features stories of the people and places who contribute to our community’s character – the musicians (meet Pacific Avenue on pg x), the artists, the food (hello, seafood) – in particular the magic of sharing food or a glass of wine with friends and family. ‘Tis the season!
We hope this issue encourages you to make the most of the outdoors and the incredible Dharawal country around us. Whether you choose a morning swim, a picnic with a view, or simply a quiet moment watching the sunset over the escarpment, there is something for everyone.
Lastly, I want to take a moment to send our warmest wishes and love to our deputy editor, Hayley Griffiths, who is currently unwell. Her dedication and spirit are a vital part of our Coal Coast team, and we can’t wait to have her back with us in 2026.
